Coral Castle is a mysterious structure made of oolite limestone, now located between Homestead and Leisure City in Miami-Dade County, Florida. The limestone castle was built by an eccentric Latvian-American named Edward Leedskalnin, who spent 28 years building the structure.

Edward initially named the castle, “Ed’s Place”, and it was located in Florida City in 1923.

According to official Coral Castle promotional material, Edward Leedskalnin was turned down by his 16-year-old fiancee Agnes Skuvst in Latvia when he was 26 years old. She turned him down just one day before the wedding, and shortly after he came down with tuberculosis while on his way to America.

His story is interesting, because he believed tuberculosis to be a terminal illness, yet he spontaneously healed. Edward claimed the magnets had some effect on his disease, allowing him to heal quickly. This is where all the legends come from, as many people think Edward Leedskalnin was using some sort of supernatural reverse magnetism powers to move and carve the stones — as each of them weighed many tons!

However, if he had those special abilities, it wouldn’t have taken him 28 years to build Coral Castle. According to Leedskalnin, the only advanced tool used was a “perpetual motion holder”.
