The largest zoo in Florida, the Miami-Dade Zoological Park and Gardens (often referred to as “Zoo Miami” for short) was established all the way back in 1948 at Crandon Park in Key Biscayne. It wasn’t until 1980 when they relocated to the southwest of Miami, where the old Richmond Naval Air Station used to be.
Zoo Miami is home to over 2,000 wild animals! All of these animals are in a cageless setting, which is obviously better for the animals, while also providing visitors with a safari experience in South FL.
